Send Text Messages From Your Computer For Free!
Text Messages have become an extremely popular method of communication. 2 people each with Cellular Phones can conveniently stay in touch by entering a small text message on their keypad. Cellular phone providers offer this service to their customers, usually for a small fee to send, and free to receive. It’s called the Short Message Service (SMS).
Many people don’t know that you can send Text Messages for FREE from your computer! And since it is usually free for the recipient to receive the message, this is a totally free transaction; with convenience to boot! Make sure you know who the recipients cellular phone provider is before you attempt to send the message. All you have to do is enter the phone number whom you would like to send to, your message (140 characters maximum to be safe, including spaces), and a validation code. The validation code is simple, and just entails you entering a couple characters into a text box - to prove that you are a human being, and not a computer-programmed advertiser (also know as a spammer).
If the recipient uses Rogers or Fido as their cellular provider, use the following link:

If the recipient uses Telus as their cellular provider, use the following link:

If the recipient uses Bel or Solo Mobile as their cellular provider, use the following link:

Happy Texting!

I tried sending a text msg to rogers and was foiled! They did not accept the code as printed before my very eyes. Did you forget to mention you have to be registered with them first? Or do you? No thank you.

Hi Elaine,
No, you do not need to register with them. Just make sure that the cell phone you are sending the text message to is part of the corresponding network. For example, use the Rogers website to send text messages to Rogers Cell Phones only. Same for Bell, and Telus.
Be careful with the codes, sometimes they can be tricky.
Good Luck!

Looks like myspace.com and bebo.com plus several others will be added very soon.

Hey Brian,
Thanks for bring that information forward to the Technology Blog. May be something for facebook users to consider.
Of course if it can be done for free, it is just a question of convenience. Whether you want to send directly from facebook, or from the official cellular website (zero cost).
Bye for now,
Colin.

Any idea if its possible to text somebody that is with Virgin Mobile?

Hi Michelle,
Didn’t really see anything on their official website. I did however find this website:
http://www.freetxt.ca
Apparently they send free text messages to all the wireless carriers including Virgin Mobile. I have never used it before so check it out for yourself and see what you think.
Regards,
Colin.

Can you forward a text msg on your phone to your home computer?
How would I do this, if possible?

Hi john schlachta,
You can send a text message to your home computer via email. Instead of inputting a phone number as the recipient, input your home email address instead. That way you will get the message on your computer.

Colin.
